Bangladesh Aiming For 10% Economic Growth in Next Three Years : PM Sheikh Hasina – Nikkei Asian Review

In an exclusive interview with Japan’s top Newspaper Nikkei Asian Review  Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her countries desire to be an economic powerhouse in South Asia in Next Three Years. Bangladesh already achieved  higher economic growth then India and Pakistan in Recent Years .  

PM Sheikh Hasina Daughter   Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , the Founding Father of Bangladesh has embarked on an ambitious infrastructure program since taking office in early 2009 -The number of power plants has grown to 121 from 27, while access to electricity has risen to 93% of the 166 million population from 47%. She has pledged 100% access by the middle of next year.

Second Nuclear Power Plant in Line

As Bangladesh already started construction of 2400 MW Nuclear power plant expected to be complete in 2024 , PM Sheikh Hasina said ” A second Nuclear power plant construction process will start soon . As for the proposed second plant, “we are searching for land,” she said, adding that she hopes to build it in the south, one of the country’s less developed regions . China expressed willingness to Support the Second Nuclear plant as The first Nuclear power plant was constructed by Russia .

Bangladesh could become Asia’s fastest growing economy through a range a policies. One example she gave was the country’s attempt to coax foreign companies to set up in a new network of 100 special economic zones. Currently 11 of the zones are now functioning and 79 are under construction.
 “

Among the deals in Beijing’s estimated $38 billion total investment in Bangladesh are $24 billion in bilateral assistance for infrastructure projects and $13.6 billion in joint ventures, China recently acquired a 25% stake in the Dhaka Stock Exchange after outbidding Indian rivals. Bangladesh is also one of the top importers of Chinese military hardware
