Rampal Power station is a controversial power project between India and Bangladesh situated near Sundorban Mangrove forest.
From the beginning of its location and confusing economic partnership between India created huge criticism in Bangladesh. Much International organization condemned the decision to establish a coal-based power plant near a natural heritage site.
In response to India’s callAugustgust 2010 Bangladesh Power development board and Indias
National Thermal Power Corporation signed an MOU to establish a joint venture power plant. on January 2012 BPDB signed a contract with India to built the power plant.
A 1.5 Billion dollar power plant concentrated in imported coal from India 50/50 partnership between India and Bangladesh but the loan repayment responsibility is 70% for Bangladesh. As huge criticism over the environmental issue in March 2011, A High court bench asked the Bangladesh government “why the construction of the plant should not be declared illegal.
