Acting Amir of JMB arrested in the capital

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of the police has arrested Rezaul Haque Reza alias Tanvir Mahmud Shihab, acting emir of the banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the capital.

He was arrested during a raid in Badda area on Saturday.

Arrested Rezaul is currently the head of the Dawa and Baitulmal department in addition to the acting emir of the JMB. He is also the only surah member of the militant group. 

According to the police, the last acting Amir of JMB was Engineer Khurshid Alam. He was killed in a ‘gunfight’ in 2016.

Abdul Mannan, deputy commissioner of CTTC’s special action group, confirmed the arrest to  bdnewsnet.com. He said Rezaul was accused in multiple cases. He is in the custody of CTTC. He will be taken to court tomorrow (Sunday).

Rezaul, who was involved in a series of bombings across the country in 2005, was arrested that year.
