Drone attack on Saudi airport

Yemen
‘s Houthi rebels have carried out a drone attack at Saudi Arabia‘s southwestern Abha International Airport.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Sari claimed that drone strikes had hit sensitive areas of the airport on Friday evening.

Abha International Airport operates domestic and regional routes to Saudi Arabia from Abha Airport, 200 kilometres north of the Yemeni border. The airport is located in the southwestern part of the country.

The Houthi forces claimed that the Kasef-2K drones were used in the attack and that they hit the target very accurately.

Yahya Sariyi said the attack, carried out by Yemen in response to Saudi Arabia’s aggression on Yemen for the past six years, was “absolutely legitimate” and that Yemenis had the right to carry out such an attack.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels overthrew Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbi Mansour Hadi in 2014 after seizing the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. Later, Rabbi Mansour fled the country and moved to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi military then intervened in Yemen’s civil war. The United Nations says at least 6,700 civilians have been killed and more than 10,000 injured in the past four years.

Iran‘s allies, the Houthis, have occasionally fired missiles and drones at Saudi cities.
