The Birth of Modern Bangladesh
British invaded Bengal in 1757 in Battle of Plassey ,The plunder of Bengal directly contributed to the Industrial Revolution in Britain . Bengal became the Bengal Presidency of British Raj, which experienced deindustrialization under British rule.The Company increased agriculture tax rates from 10 percent to up to 50 causing the Great Bengal famine of 1770 and the deaths of 10 Million Bengalis . The United Kingdom Cabinet Mission of 1946 to British Raj aimed to discuss the transfer of power from the British government to the Regional leadership. Bengali Prime Minister Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and nationalist leader Sarat Chandra Bose wanted to found a united and independent nation-state of Bengal. The proposal was floated as an alternative to the partition of Bengal on communal lines. The initiative failed due to British diplomacy.
