Extremists Are Using AI to Reanimate Hitler and Spread Neo-Nazi Propaganda Online

Artificial intelligence is fueling a disturbing resurgence of Adolf Hitler’s image and ideology online, as extremists use AI voice-cloning tools to revive Nazi dictator’s speeches for a new generation. Across platforms like TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, AI-generated videos featuring Hitler’s voice are being distributed widely, reaching millions of viewers with messages rooted in antisemitism and white supremacy.

In se AI-recreated speeches, Hitler’s voice delivers English-language versions of some of his most infamous addresses, including his 1939 Reichstag speech that predicted the extermination of Jewish people. Such videos are accompanied by comments praising Hitler as a “hero” or claiming he was “misunderstood.” Neo-Nazi groups on platforms like Telegram and dark web forums celebrate se AI-powered videos as a potent tool for spreading a hateful ideology, using m to radicalize younger audiences.

AI Tools Supercharge Extremist Propaganda

the accessibility of AI voice-cloning technology largely drives the rapid rise in this content. Extremists are using readily available AI tools, such as those developed by companies like ElevenLabs, to recreate Hitler’s voice and manipulate videos. Se tools require only a few seconds of a historical figure’s speech to create a lifelike replication, making it easier than ever for far-right groups to repackage Nazi ideology for online audiences.

One prominent neo-Nazi content creator known as OMGITSFLOOD has even hosted livestreams teaching ors how to use AI to clone Hitler’s voice and produce propaganda videos. During one session, a user created a video within minutes, with Hitler speaking in English about antisemitic conspiracies. This user boasted of his admiration for Hitler and expressed hope that  AI-enhanced propaganda would inspire future leaders with similar beliefs.

Radicalization on Social Media

This wave of AI-generated Nazi content coincides with growing traction among far-right communities online. A report by the nonprofit Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) found that content glorifying or translating Hitler’s speeches into English had amassed 25 million views across platforms like X, TikTok, and Instagram since mid-August. Many of the videos are gaining popularity at a time when conspiracy theories once confined to fringe groups are beginning to surface in mainstream politics.

Experts warn that AI-generated propaganda, which engages audiences emotionally through lifelike voices and visuals, is a particularly effective tool for radicalizing young people. Emerson T. Brooking, a senior fellow at Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, noted that AI-enhanced videos can create “a new kind of emotional engagement” more seductive than traditional extremist content.

Challenges for Moderation

ease with which extremists can produce and distribute AI-powered propaganda poses serious challenges for social media platforms struggling to combat hate speech and misinformation. While some platforms have taken action—such as ElevenLabs, which banned users from creating harmful content after being notified about AI Hitler videos—many of these videos continue to circulate, often evading moderation efforts.

The ability to generate hateful content so easily through AI has raised concerns among misinformation experts, who argue that this technology is amplifying the spread of extremist views. Abbie Richards, a researcher at Media Matters for America, highlighted how the simplicity of AI tools allows neo-Nazi groups to “pump out” propaganda at unprecedented rates, increasing the likelihood that ir content reaches larger and more impressionable audiences.

Dark Future of AI-Generated Hate

Neo-Nazi groups are continuously seeking ways to inject ir narratives into mainstream discourse, and AI-generated content provides m with a new and powerful weapon. Rita Katz, executive director of SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks extremist activity online, warned that AI’s ability to create captivating propaganda is helping se groups gain attention and spread dangerous ideologies.

As AI technology becomes more sophisticated and accessible, the challenge of curbing its use for spreading hate speech and radicalizing individuals will only grow more urgent. Social media platforms and AI companies face increasing pressure to adapt our policies and technology to prevent extremists from exploiting these tools to fuel hatred and violence.

With millions already exposed to AI-manipulated content that glorifies Hitler and Nazi ideology,  stakes are high in the fight to prevent AI from becoming a tool for amplifying extremist propaganda.
