Alivardi Khan’ is the son of Shah Quli Khan . He was a military General of Bengal’s Army.
Alivardi Khan was titled Shuja ul-Mulk (Hero of the country), Hassemm ud-Daula (Sword of the state) by Nawab Shuja ud-Din.

After His death, His son Nawab Sarfaraz Khan
paid no attention to the observance of those duties required as a Nawab of Bengal. Sarfaraz’s advisors became the controller of the state . As the state became directionless and in threat of Maratha Invasion Alivardi Khan took control of the Masnad in 1740.
Soon after
Alivardi Khan became the Nawab of Bengal, Marathas invaded Bengal .
Raghuji Bhonsle, the Maratha ruler of Nagpur invaded Orissa of Bengal in August 1741 . Alivardi rushed to Orissa and defeated the combined forces of the Marathas and the rebels in the Battle of Raipur in December 1741 .
Then in 1747 Marathas led by Raghoji, began to raid, pillage and annex the territories of Bengal. Orissa Subedar Mir Jafar completely withdrew all forces without any resistance. Alivardi Khan dismissed & shamed Mir Jafar at Murshidabad for fleeing the war.
In Battle of Burdwan
Alivardi Khan rallied an Army of nearly 10,000 troops against
40,000 Maratha cavalry.
At the Battle of Burdwan where Raghoji and his Maratha forces were completely routed by excellent Military skill of Nawab Alivardi Khan .
Maratha invasions caused great destruction in the Bengal Subah, resulting in heavy civilian casualties and widespread economic losses.


Alivardi Khan reign of 16 years, was mostly engaged in various wars against the Marathas. Towards the end, he turned his attention to rebuilding and restoring Bengal. He Died 10 April 1756 at aged 84.
