In the hearing on the US State Department’s budget for the South Asia , The Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation Bradley James Sherman said if Myanmar government failed to accommodate its Rohingya people of North Rakhine state – US Must support Bangladesh to Annex this North Rakhine state for the Human Rights of Rohingya people .
Bradley Shermans proposal will have serious implications if the Trump administration decides to take action on it.
Referring to the USA’s support for split of South Sudan from Sudan, Bradley Sherman asked why the USA would not take a similar step for protecting the civil rights of Rohingyas of Myanmar?
A durable solution for the Rohingya in Myanmar depends on their ability to return home without having to face state-sanctioned violence and ensuring their protection under the rule of law.
On January 14, 2019, the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act came into law, reaffirming the U.S. commitment to preventing and responding to atrocities. This legislation highlights the importance of a coordinated “whole of government” approach to strengthen US government’s ability to forecast, prevent, and respond to mass atrocities.
Bradley James Sherman The Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997 said in the hearing
I want to comment in Bangladesh for hosting hundreds of thousands of Rohingya from neighboring Myanmar I As I said in this room before if Myanmar or Burma is unwilling or unable to be a good government for the Rohingya people live in North Rakhine state then we should transfer & united states should support transfer that portion of that state to Bangladesh which is willing to Accommodate the Rohingya people . The people of North Rakhine state deserve a government that tries to protect them not destroy them ”
Bradley James Sherman
The violence against the #Rohingya in Burma is unconscionable. Bangladesh has presented evidence to the International Criminal Court regarding the crimes against the Rohingya. #HumanRights are not optional, and every nation has an obligation to ensure justice in this case.

US Remarks at a UN Security Council Briefing on the Situation in Myanmar
“The violence and persecution by the military and vigilantes that resulted in driving 700,000 Rohingya to Bangladesh is without excuse.” We agree with UNHCR’s assessment that conditions in Myanmar are not yet conducive for voluntary returns, and that the responsibility to improve those conditions rests with Myanmar We urge Myanmar to play a constructive role in resolving this crisis, including by ensuring accountability for those responsible for human rights violations and abuses.
