Sonia Gandhi’s meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was marked by warmth and camaraderie. As Sheikh Hasina stood at the door with open arms, Sonia Gandhi walked in with a smile, and the two leaders shared a heartfelt hug. Rahul Gandhi, dressed in a white kurta pyjama, greeted Hasina with a respectful namaste followed by a hug. Priyanka Gandhi was also warmly welcomed with an embrace.
The four of them then proceeded to Sheikh Hasina’s room, where they met other leaders from her delegation. A prominent portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina’s father and the founding leader of Bangladesh, adorned the room.
The Congress party tweeted a video of the meeting, highlighting the warm interactions and noting, “CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji, former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ji greeted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed ji and met other delegates in New Delhi today.”
The tweet also mentioned the key discussions aimed at strengthening the India-Bangladesh relationship, emphasizing trust, cooperation, and a commitment to mutual growth.
Sheikh Hasina, who recently secured her fifth term as Prime Minister in January, was among the South Asian leaders invited to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath ceremony. Following the ceremony, she had a one-on-one meeting with Modi, where she congratulated him on his election victory and expressed her willingness to work with the new government to further enhance bilateral ties.
