In a tragic incident in Worli, Mumbai, a 28-year-old man named Vinod Lad succumbed to injuries after being struck by a speeding BMW car. The accident occurred on July 20, when Lad’s two-wheeler was hit from behind by a car on Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in the Worli Sea Face area. He sustained severe head injuries and was in a coma for seven days before passing away on Saturday at BYL Nair Hospital.Â
This marks the second fatal accident involving a speeding BMW in Worli this month. On July 9, Kaveri Nakhwa, a 45-year-old fisherwoman, died after being dragged for nearly two kilometers by a BMW driven by Mihir Shah, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Shah is the son of Shinde Sena leader Rajesh Shah and reportedly switched seats with his driver after the incident.Â
In the latest case, the driver of BMW, identified as Kiran Indulkar, was taking his Thane-based employer to a family function at a hotel in Worli. Following the accident, Indulkar and Ors present at the scene transported Lad to the hospital. Initially, Indulkar was charged with causing grievous hurt by negligent driving, but charges are now likely to be upgraded to causing death by negligent driving following Lad’s death.Â
Vinod Lad was employed as a supervisor at a Thane-based transport company and was planning to get married in December. Police have registered an FIR based on a complaint by Lad’s cousin, Kishore Lad, who works at DN Nagar police station.Â
