Bizarre Dismissal Stuns National Cricket League Match as Bat Breaks, Hits Stumps

National Cricket League (NCL) 2024/25 witnessed an extraordinary moment during the match between Dhaka Metropolis and Rangpur Division, leaving both players and spectators stunned. In an unusual turn of events, Dhaka Metropolis’ wicketkeeper-batter, Tahjibul Islam, lost his wicket in one of cricket’s rarest dismissals when a piece of his bat broke off and hit stumps.

Dramatic Incident

Batting at No. 3 in Dhaka Metropolis’ second innings, Tahjibul attempted to drive a delivery from Rangpur Division’s Mehedi Hasan. However, as the bat made contact with the ball, its toe end broke off, flying backward to dislodge the bails. The unanticipated dismissal left the batter and fielding team in disbelief.

Tahjibul stood frozen, staring at a detached piece of his bat lying next to stumps as  Rangpur fielders erupted in celebration. It took a moment for him to register what had happened. A fielder, showcasing good sportsmanship, picked up a bat piece and handed it back to Tahjibul, who trudged off the field, visibly shaken by his misfortune.

Tahjibul’s Performance and Match Outcome

Despite a bizarre dismissal, Tahjibul had been a key performer for Dhaka Metropolis in the first innings, scoring a resilient 73 off 190 balls. However, his team struggled in the second innings, collapsing for just 118.

The match, played at a brisk pace, eventually ended in a draw, with Rangpur Division unable to capitalize fully on Dhaka Metropolis’ second-innings woes.

Cricket’s Rare Dismissals

Tahjibul’s dismissal joins the ranks of cricket’s most unusual occurrences, reminding fans of the unpredictable nature of the game. Instances like this often spark debate about equipment standards and add a layer of intrigue to sports.

As the league progresses, Tahjibul’s bizarre dismissal will undoubtedly remain one of the season’s most talked-about moments, illustrating that in cricket, even the unexpected can become part of the narrative.
