Samsung Expands AI Features to Older Galaxy Phones with One UI 6.1.1 Update

Samsung has officially confirmed that it will be extending its latest AI features to a range of older Galaxy devices through its new One UI 6.1.1 update. Initially debuting with Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in July, these features are now being rolled out to a broader selection of Samsung smartphones and tablets. 

The update includes enhanced AI capabilities for devices including Galaxy S24 series, S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series. Users of these devices can now access a suite of new and updated AI tools designed to improve functionality and user experience. 

New and Updated AI Features 

  1. Interpreter: This real-time language translation service now includes a “listening mode” on additional devices, making it easier to communicate across language barriers. 
  1. Chat Assist: Updated with a new Composer feature, Chat Assist uses generative AI to help draft text more effectively. 
  1. Suggested Replies: Available on Galaxy S24, Flip 6, and Fold 6, this feature generates quick replies to messages that can be sent directly from a Galaxy Watch 7 or Watch Ultra. 
  1. Note Assist: This tool now offers automatic formatting, summarization, grammar checks, and translation of notes. A new transcript feature extends capabilities to voice recordings. 
  1. PDF Overlay Translation: This feature translates text overlayed on PDF files or other images, streamlining the process of understanding foreign-language documents. 
  1. Sketch To Image: Utilizes generative AI to enhance hand-drawn pictures by adding additional content. 
  1. Portrait Studio: Transforms portrait photos into various styles such as 3D cartoons or watercolor paintings using generative AI. 
  1. Instant Slow Mo: Allows users to apply slow-motion effects to videos after have been recorded, preserving high image quality. 

Additionally, the update brings an enhanced version of Circle to Search, a feature that allows users to perform various tasks with their camera. Recent updates have expanded Circle To Search’s capabilities to include text translation, QR code scanning, and homework assistance with step-by-step guides for solving math problems. new Sound Search feature, similar to Shazam, can identify music by sound. 

Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 update signifies a commitment to bringing advanced AI functionality to a wider range of devices, enhancing overall user experience across its product lineup. Currently, new features are available on the flagship 2024 and 2023 devices mentioned, with potential future updates for other models as well.
