Sorry Russia! Its Eurofighter Typhoon

Bangladesh’s Air Force released its tender to procure multi-role combat aircraft in 2017. The requirement indicates that the BAF is open to the incorporation of Western NATO standard aircraft, and Russian Multirole fighter system. Multirole is one aircraft with both major roles, a primary air-to-air combat role, and a secondary role like air-to-surface attack.

The Bangladesh Air Force Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshall Mashiuzzaman Serniabat and delegation include 4 Air Commodores and 3 Group Captains from the Engineering and Logistics visited the United Kingdom in July 2019. According to various sources They carried out technical inspection of the Eurofighter Typhoon in the Royal Air Force Base. The United Kingdom pledged to provide Bangladesh Air Force full support to acquire Eurofighter Typhoon.

According to sources Moscow offered Bangladesh their Su-30SME the new variant of the Su-30, But Bangladesh Wanted the Su-35. Russia played the price card ” If Bangladesh doesn’t buy Mig-35 then Russia said they’ll not sell Su-35 ” . Russia also offered SU 30 to Mayanmar and SU 35 to India. Russian attitude leads Bangladesh Airforce to consider western Multirole system.

The Eurofighter Typhoon

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a highly agile aircraft, designed to be a supremely effective dogfighter in combat also have air to ground attack capability. Only 15% of the aircraft’s surface is metal, delivering stealth operation and protection from radar-based systems.

Plane Aircraft

Eurofighter Typhoon has Superior maneuverability at subsonic speeds and efficient supersonic capability to support the widest range of combat scenarios. Its can operate at Max altitude Above 55,000ft with Max Speed of Mach 2.0 .

The Pilot in Mind

Pilot Wearing helmet mounted symbology system

The Eurofighter Typhoon’s wide-angle head-up display (HUD) provides the pilot with stable, accurate, high integrity, low latency eyes-out guidance in a compact package . Eurofighter Typhoon utilizes a unique Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS), alongside six other pilot display surfaces. The helmet is composed of an outer helmet, inner helmet, optics blast/display visor, oxygen mask, night vision enhancement camera and head position tracking system.

Multifunctional Information Distribution System

The Eurofighter Typhoon Use a multi-functional digital information distribution systems- that allows the aircraft to securely exchange real time date between a wide variety of users,

Captor-M mechanically scanned radar

The Captor-E electronically scanned radar is the future primary sensor on Eurofighter Typhoon and has a full suite of Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface modes. The capacious aperture of the Eurofighter Typhoon allows the installation of Captor-E’s optimized and repositionable array whose field of regard is some 50 percent wider than traditional fixed plate systems

Combining a proven, agile airframe built from stealth materials with the latest sensor, control and weapons systems measures were taken to reduce the Typhoon’s radar cross-section.

The BAF requirement was

  1. A twin-engine design, with 12000 kg thrust and a minimum payload of 5,000 kg
  2. An electronically-scanned array radar with an air-to-air range 150 km and air-to-surface range of 50 km
  3. integrated electronic warfare (EW) and electronic countermeasures (ECCM) suite;
  4. infrared search and track (IRST) system with a target tracking range of at least 50 km;
  5. helmet-mounted display and sight (HMD/S) system with cueing; head-up display (HUD) and modern glass cockpit
  6. a complete package of the aircraft, maintenance, and training  .
